CHECK POINTS AND TRANSITION
AREAS
The course is punctuated by checkpoints (CP) that competitors must pass as a
whole team. A checkpoint is managed by VIKING RAID Officials, but can also be
remote and unmanned. A Check point assistant (CPA)
is area where the teams meet their assistant and gears
during the race. The CP and CPA are placed on
locations described in the VIKING RAID Roadbook, with
map coordinates giving the exact location. Each team member must be present at a
CP to check in on arrival and check out on departure with the officials. The
team leader must sign the CP or CPA sheet to record their passage. Teams must
follow the instructions given by officials responsible for the CP. Missing a CP
will result in the team being penalised or excluded from official ranking.

sections of the race, for logistical and safety reasons at any time.

modify or alternate the routes, shorten or cut the race in every moment in case
of emergency, bad weather conditions or anything else.
May and August
are generally very variable.
We can expect good weather but do not be surprised if you get caught in the
heavy showers. The most of the racing course takes a
place on the west coast where temperature can reach 10
to 25 degrees during a day and 5
to 15 during the night. In mountain
regions temperature can vary between 13-20 during the day, and 3-14
degrees during the night. Rain and short showers are possible. In that period of
the year the Sea vary between 12 and 18
degrees. the river temperature vary between 3 to 14 degrees. You
will face strong winds in mountain regions. As always
in a race of this type, the weather can play an important
role in determining the safety of a particular discipline. The race organizers
reserve the right to cancel particular section, stop the race or direct
competitors to alternative routes if it is deemed too dangerous due to inclement
weather. In the case of a cancelled discipline, there will be an alternative
route issued to each team in order to bypass that section.
